About us

Tanto Far Beach is an Auroville guest house offering a range of rooms and houses with a view of the sea, chlorine free salt water swimming pool, garbage free beach with showers, Italian restaurant, and spa.

We have a barrier-free accommodation, a children’s play area with a trampoline and child section in the swimming pool.

To keep you company, there are dozens of Lizards,Birds,Dogs, Cats on the property, along with many squirrels, reptiles, and bugs.

Pets are not allowed here but we can make an exception depending on the listing but do note the pet has to be on leash in all the common areas since we have another 3-4 dogs of our own and few other stray dogs we can’t take any responsibility for your pet. An additional charge of 500/ pet is applicable but please check with us if the pet is allowed on your listing.

This is not a Hotel/ resort but a small guest house where we are interested in accommodating guests intrested in Auroville.

There are NO Generators in our Guest House but in case of power cuts the UPS will  power 1 or 2 light or fan.  please bear in mind this could last from 2-3 hrs and mostly the power will be back within an hour maximum unless otherwise.

Accommodation

Our Auroville guest house has 23 rooms in 7 houses spread over a 8 acre property with a 350 meters sea frontage. You’ll find here villas, large airy rooms, rooms in the economy range or view from the hammock looking at the sea on a sunset.

House Rules

  • Minimum stay 2 nights and on long weekends 3-4 nights. X’mas new year 1 week minimum
  • Check in time is 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Check out time is before 11 a.m.
  • Early Check-In, Check-out is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed, extra charges may apply. Please make prior arrangements to avoid any inconvenience
  • Confirmation of room booking is done only once the advance payment has been received.
  • Guests will be requested to provide ID upon Check-in, guests will need to fill the registration form.
  • Simple buffet-breakfast is included (08:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.)
  • Children under the age of 5 sharing existing beds, at no additional charge.
  • House Keeping is done daily, towels are changed upon individual request or every 3 days(room cleaning will be done wether you are there in the room or not, so please let us know if the cleaning is not required)
  • Pool access is restricted for guests with synthetic swimwear only. Pool access will be denied to guests without synthetic swimwear
  • A level of noise is to be kept within the tolerable level especially after 09:00 PM.
  • In case of power cut we have installed general UPS as power backup for lights, fans and plug,we do not have generator.
  • Guests are financially liable for damages incurred out/while their stay
  • Alcohol consumption not permitted
  • Groups of men only or youngsters looking to party not allowed
  • Inappropriate behavior from guests may result is cancellation of stay
  • Induced noisy behavior and intoxicants not allowed within the community and swimming poolside
  • We are happy to be of service when it is needed between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., and of course, in the case of emergency, there will always be somebody at the Guest House, 24 hours a day. But remember, this is not a Hotel, we do not have a reception or room service, so we expect Guests to respect our privacy and family time from 5 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Refund/Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellation 2 weeks prior to Check-In date, 100% refund;
  • Cancellation between 2 weeks and 1 week prior to Check- In date, 50% refund only;
  • Cancellation less than a week or 48-Hours from the Check-In date, 25% only;
  • Cancellation less than 48-Hours prior to Check-In date, 0% refund.

Getting around

  • Tanto Far Beach is located on the beach, with access from the East Coast Road. We are 8km away from the Center of Auroville, and 10 from Pondicherry.
  • Auroville has reliable taxi services at disposition 24/7, it can be called from the guest house to anywhere (in and around Auroville, Pondicherry, railway station, airport, Chennai trips etc). Taxi can be arranged at an extra charge.
  • Mopeds, scooters can be rented at the many rental places in and around for an extra charge (you are advised to order it before your arrival).

How to find us

  • Arriving  from Chennai via the East Coast Road (ECR)
    Turn left at the Tanto Far Beach sign-board ( on your left), opposite the Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC), about 10kms before reaching  Puduchery.
  • Arriving  from Chennai/Bangalore via the Tindivinam-Puduchery Highway
    Turn left onto the Auroville single track road just before the Puducherry entry Toll Plaza. Drive straight East until you reach the East Coast road. Turn left towards Chennai. Opposite the Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC), you will see the Tanto Far Beach sign-board.
  • Arriving by bus from Chennai via the ECR
    Get down at the PEC bus stop, or Pondicherry University, all together a 5 minute walking distance from Tanto Far Beach Retreat.
  • Arriving by bus from Chennai/ Bangalore via the Tindivanam Highway
    Proceed to Puduchery Bus Terminus, locate a local town bus heading towards Kalapet/ Kanakachettikula/ PIMS Hospital (max. trip charges Rs.8/-). Get down at PEC bus stop, cross the road and locate Tanto’s Far Beach sign-board. Head down-left the one-lane concrete road leading to the beach, proceed for approx 100m (opposite of the PEC).Turn to your left, there will be a green gate that reads ‘Srima’. You are here, Welcome!

Enter the premise; park your car in the designated parking area (cars are not permitted beyond this point). Proceed North to the Tanto’s Restaurant, Office/Reception (2 min of walk-able distance).
